CHICAGO — Uncle Fun, the iconic Belmont Avenue novelty shop, is closing its doors, the store announced on Facebook today.
The venerable shop, described as "a cross between a hob goblin's garage sale and a cereal box toy warehouse," is shutting down because its owner, Ted Frankel, is moving to Baltimore with his husband, the store said.
A purveyor of goofy gifts, rare kitcsh and other gags, Uncle Fun had been in business for more than 25 years.
It's unclear when the store, located at 1338 W. Belmont Ave., will close for good. In the meantime, it will be offering steep discounts on loads of memorabilia, some of which will come from its warehouse.
