NEAR WEST SIDE — All Chicago’s Gay Hockey Association wants for Christmas is for their YouTube video to land them a spot on a certain daytime talk show.

“We’re dying to get on "Ellen," said Andrew Sobotka, president of the association.

On Nov. 28, Sobotka’s hockey association, which was formed in 2002 and has 56 players, posted a video of the team singing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” on YouTube.

The video has since been viewed 100,000 times.

Sobotka said he was “definitely not” expecting the kind of reaction the video received.

“We just made it for ourselves to have fun,” said Sobotka, 28. “What inspired us was we love that song, we play it year round. I’m not even kidding, it’s on the jukebox every month of the year.”

The association has players on eight Chicago teams. The association’s competitive team, the Red Liners, play the Rusty Blades Dec. 21 at Johnny’s Ice House, 1350 W. Madison St., at 1:30 p.m.

And if you’re lucky, you may even catch a little pregame performance.

“We’re people who love to have fun, and we’re always singing,” Sobotka said. “Whitney and Mariah and all the other divas are our locker room pump-up music, so it’s sort of a tribute.”
