LITTLE VILLAGE — Officials are scratching their heads after two fetuses were found in jars Wednesday morning in the Little Village neighborhood.

Police were called about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday after two jars filled with what appeared to be fetuses were found in an alley in the 2500 block of South Harding Avenue.

A worker at a nearby business spotted the two jars and called police, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

Officials at the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the contents of the jars as fetuses, but said they still were trying to determine whether the fetuses are human.

As of Thursday morning, police had launched a noncriminal investigation into the matter, Estrada said.
