Woman Hospitalized After Car Strikes Pole on Near West Side

CHICAGO — A woman was hurt after the car she was driving struck a light pole in Near West Side Monday morning, authorities said.

The womam hit a traffic light pole at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Oakley Boulevard about 5:05 a.m., said Officer John Mirabelli, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The 23-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital's trauma unit, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Juan Hernandez said. 

She was initially in "very serious" condition, according to Mirabelli, though her condition stabilized at the hospital.
