Cell Phones, Purses, Wallets Stolen on Near West Side

CHICAGO — There has been a spike in wallet and cell phone robberies on the Near West Side, police said Tuesday.

In the incidents, robbers walk up to victims and take their cell phones and wallets or purses "by force or by deception," according to a community alert.

The robberies occurred about 4 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of West Lake Street, about 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of West Randolph Street and at 11:41 p.m. Sept. 18 in the 1200 block of West Randolph Street, authorities said.
