CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man has been charged after allegedly stealing an off-duty police officer's car last week.

Christopher Jones, of the 1300 block of East 69th Street, was hit with six charges related to the theft, including vehicular hijacking and aggravated battery. He allegedly stole the 2006 silver Infiniti from the officer around 10:20 p.m. Sept. 6 in the 6900 block of South East End Avenue in South Shore, police said.

Inside the SUV were the officer's gun, badge and bullet-proof vest, police said. The officer was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.

Police said Jones admitted he was involved in the carjacking after being arrested for another burglary that took place in August. He was arrested in the 6700 block of South Jeffrey Avenue Thursday.
