LAKEVIEW — Zad Middle Eastern restaurant was evicted Monday, according to a notice posted on the restaurant's window.

Its windows were papered over and a bright green sign from the Cook County's Sheriff Office declared that "all persons" had been evicted from the storefront at 3112 N. Broadway Ave. A phone number for Zad was no longer in service.

According to Cook County Circuit Court records, the restaurant owed nearly $20,000 to the property owner.

The restaurant served Mediterranean food such as hummus, falafel and shawarmas before it closed.

It's the second restaurant in recent weeks to be evicted from the highly-trafficked commercial corridor.

Mexican restaurant Frida's, 3757 N. Southport Ave., shuttered last week after rent became too high. Their storefront was also papered over with an eviction notice on the window.
