Former Marcy Newberry Childrens Choir

After Near West Side childcare center Marcy Newberry closed in June , the fate of its children's choir was up in the air. Children's choir director Debra Kelly — who worked 24 years at the center —  reached out to Melissa Kelly, director of services at the George Collins Senior Building, 1401 S. Blue Island Ave., down the street from the former Marcy center. Now, for the past week, the newly renamed "Voices of Youth Community Choir" has been rehearsing alongside senior citizens at George Collins. The new choir has its first performance, a rendition of Motown favorites, on Saturday from 3-3:30 p.m. at Addams/Medill Park, 1301 W. 14th St. Admission is free.
