CHICAGO — A man was dead on the scene after driving his motorcycle into a semitruck Tuesday morning on the Near West Side, authorities said.

The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North Western Avenue, police said.

The truck, heading north on Western Avenue, was making a left turn westbound onto Lake Street with a green arrow signal, police said. The motorcyclist, heading southbound on Western, crashed into the truck while it was turning, police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:38 a.m. He was later identified as Paul Pawelski, 38, of Oklahoma City, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
