Man Killed in South Shore, Teen Wounded in Riverdale

CHICAGO — Police said a man was fatally shot in South Shore and a teenager wounded in another shooting in Riverdale Wednesday.

Cortez Bailey, 23, was fatally shot at 11:52 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Yates Boulevard, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Bailey was hit in the head and chest, said Officer Daniel O'Brien, a police spokesman.

Bailey, of the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, officials said. He was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m.

In Riverdale, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder about 2:53 p.m. in the 13100 block of South Rhodes Avenue, O'Brien said.

The teen was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in stable condition, police said.
