1-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Falling Out Window

CHICAGO — Police said a 1-year-old boy was in critical condition after falling from a second-floor window on the Near West Side Tuesday morning.

The toddler might have been pushing on the screen of a window in an apartment in the 1600 block of West Maypole Avenue about 9 a.m. before it gave way and the boy fell to the pavement, said Officer John Mirabelli, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The boy suffered head injuries and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Mirabelli said. Mirabelli said he did not immediately know who notified police about the fall.
