CHICAGO — Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on the Northwest Side Monday night.

The man grabbed a 24-year-old woman from behind as she walked on a path that leads from the 4500 block of West Agatite Avenue to the 4500 block of West Montrose Avenue near a CTA Blue Line station about 9:55 p.m., according to a community alert issued by police and Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.

The attacker pushed her face down into a flower garden, punching and choking her as he sexually assaulted her, according to the community alert. The victim screamed and believed she might have scratched the right side of his face as she fought to escape, according to the alert. The man ran off after the incident.

The victim was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital with minor injuries, including cuts on her head and face, Sullivan said.

Police described the assailant as a Hispanic or a dark-skinned white man with black hair, between 20 and 25 years old, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 and 140 to 160 pounds. He was wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, Sullivan said.

Police have not drawn a connection between the assault and an incident Sunday morning in which a man climbed into the window of an Albany Park home and sexually abused a girl, said Sullivan, who added that the investigation was ongoing.
