CHICAGO — A 60-year-old woman landed in a hospital Thursday night after fighting back when a man tried to steal her purse in the Irving Park neighborhood.

The woman was walking in the 4100 block of West Eddy at 11:45 p.m. when a man shoved her from behind and tried to take her purse, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The man hit the woman in the face multiple times, but she fought back, and he left without her purse, Estrada said. The bruised woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she remains in stable condition.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a Hispanic male in his 20s wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

No one is in custody, Estrada said.
