Disney II Magnet High School Applications Now Available

By Patty Wetli | April 12, 2013 6:56am

IRVING PARK — Disney II Magnet High School is officially open for business — or at least open to applications from prospective ninth-graders.

The elementary school received word in December that the Board of Education had approved its proposal to expand to grades 9 through 12. Last month, CPS announced that Disney II Magnet High School would share a building with Thurgood Marshall Middle School at 3900 N. Lawndale Ave.

Students can now begin applying for one of 250 seats available in the inaugural freshman class. With no seventh- or eighth-graders current attending Disney II Elementary, all of those 250 slots are open to newcomers. Disney will add a grade each year until it reaches a full complement of high schoolers.

The school's college prep curriculum will emphasize fine arts and technology integration. Qualifying students will be selected via computerized lottery.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. June 7, and must be sent via regular mail or hand-delivered to the Office of Access and Enrollment.

Notification letters will be sent the week of June 17.
