CHICAGO — One person died and seven others were shot in a single hour of gun violence in the city.

The shootings occurred between 1:40 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the University Village, Near West Side and West Englewood neighborhoods.

About 1:50 a.m., three to four males approached two men from behind before shooting them in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street in University Village, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

One of the victims, identified as 19-year-old Akeem Manago, died of multiple gunshot wounds to his body at Stroger Hospital, Greer said.

Manago, who lives in the 3700 block of South Wells Street, was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 23-year-old man Manago was walking with was shot in the leg and is listed in good condition at Stroger, Greer said.

Police are looking for the individuals believed to be involved in the attack, Greer said.

A short time earlier, a man was shot in the leg about 1:40 a.m. when answering his front door in the 2000 block of West Randolph Street in the Near West Side neighborhood, Greer said.

He is in "stable" condition, Greer said.

Police could not say if he knew the person who knocked on his door.

About the same time a few blocks away on the 2000 block of West Maypole Avenue, a 35-year-old man was found by police with a gunshot wound to the leg, Greer said.

That victim is listed in good condition, Greer said.

At about 2:15 a.m., a 33-year-old walked into Stroger with a gunshot wound to his arm after being shot near Madison Street and Damen Avenue, Greer said.

Though those three incidents occurred within blocks of each other, it's unclear if the incidents were related, Greer said.

At 2:30 a.m. three men were shot in the 2000 block of West 68th Place in West Englewood, Greer said.

A 23-year-old man was found at the scene shot in the leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was listed in good condition Sunday morning, Greer said.

A second man was found several blocks away in a car with gunshot wounds to his leg and face, police said. He was also taken to Christ and was listed in "stable" condition.

A third man, 20, had a bullet graze to his head but refused medical assistance, police said.
