COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man already in trouble for domestic battery sent a Facebook message to an apparent ex-girlfriend professing, "I'm going to prison for writing this."

Joseph Keating, 27, of the 1000 block of West Taylor Street, was charged in August with domestic battery and pleaded guilty in December.

According to court documents, Keating caused bodily harm to a 20-year-old Chicago woman he was dating. Further details on the case were unavailable.

Keating was released under the condition that he have no contact with the woman.

But according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Keating messaged the victim via Facebook a few weeks after he was let go on Jan. 18.

Prosecutors would not comment on the full content of the message to the woman. But the message contained the statement, "I'm going to prison for writing this."

That shows he was fully aware that his actions might land him in the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating the court-ordered conditions of his release, prosecutors said.

After setting his bond at $50,000, Cook County Judge Israel Desierto scolded Keating Tuesday when he appeared in bond court.

"You can't have any contact with her," Desierto said.

Keading nodded but made no verbal statements in court.
