CHICAGO — Samuel Patterson was just a block from his West Englewood home when he was fatally shot on a cold January evening.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Patterson, 21, was standing on a sidewalk in the 6300 block of South Campbell Avenue when his attacker approached, yelled something at him and opened fire.

Patterson, of the 6300 block of South Artesian, was pronounced dead shortly after the January 16 shooting, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

No charges have been filed in the slaying.

Patterson had several previous drug arrests for possession of cannabis, but otherwise had no serious criminal charges, according to court records.
