Sandwich Shop Worker Killed By Armed Robber, Cops Say

By Emily Morris | January 14, 2013 1:33pm

WEST TOWN — A Subway sandwich shop worker was gunned down by an armed robber as she tried to run from him at the eatery in February, authorities said.

Lyn Ward, 54, was working at a Subway in the 1100 block of North Western Avenue on Feb. 9 when an armed man entered the store, officials said.

The victim tried to dash to the back of the restaurant for safety during the robbery, but the suspect, Anthony White, allegedly opened fire, hitting her in the neck.

He then ordered another employee to open the register, took money and fled the store, which had been robbed twice before.

Ward, who lived in Uptown, died the next morning, the medical examiner's office said.

“She was a good person," said her boss, Bieu Hoang, who hired Ward about five years ago after she lost her job at a coffee shop, according to the Tribune. “She was a very good employee. I don’t know why they shot her. She was beautiful."

In October, Anthony White, 36, was charged with Ward's murder and held without bond. White has seven prior convictions, including drug charges and use of an unlawful weapon. An informant told police about White's alleged involvement, CBS2 reported.
