NORTH LAWNDALE — Michelle Gregory, 21, was at a party on the city’s Southwest Side when she was shot and killed by a man she had met mere hours before her death.

According to her mother, Stacey Lowe-Lewis, Gregory had been trying to get in touch with her father when the shooter assumed she was bringing someone who would threaten him to a house party on the 3900 block of West 19th Street.

Lowe-Lewis doesn’t know the exact details surrounding her daughter’s murder on April 14, except that Michelle was shot three times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital around 4:30 a.m.

Witnesses reportedly saw the two arguing at the house party.

“She was a good, well-rounded young lady,” Lowe-Lewis said. “She had aspirations to enlist in the Navy after finishing college.”

Gregory was taking general core classes at Harold Washington College at the time, in hopes of one day becoming a psychologist. According to Gregory's mother, the killer is still free.

“The police aren’t doing anything,” she said. “Within hours of her death they knew who they were looking for and they did not apprehend him. He has an extensive violent background, but they didn’t go after him—it was a matter of protocol, so to speak.”
