Teen Caught in Middle of Domestic Dispute

By DNAinfo Staff on January 7, 2013 11:52pm

CHICAGO — Akil Partee, 19, was coming home from work on a July night when he apparently ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The young man appeared to be caught in the middle of a domestic dispute when he was shot before 1 a.m. after returning from his job at Sears, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Partee died outside his apartment building in the 5900 block of West Lake Street on the border of Chicago's Austin neighborhood and Oak Park, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Earlier that night, a man had argued with a woman from inside his car near Partee’s apartment, according to the Tribune. By the time Partee came home from work, the man had reportedly returned with a gun and began firing shots. Partee died on the scene, while two other men were seriously wounded, the Tribune reported.

Partee's father reportedly wanted to pray next to his son's body and stayed beside him for about three hours before he was taken away on a stretcher. He told the Tribune his son was an “extraordinary” young man.
