PILSEN — Gastropub Pl-zen debuted its first brunch Friday, despite some mixed feelings about opening the kitchen the day the Mayan calendar ended.
"We were expecting the world to end because I don't like getting up at six in the morning," owner Cesar Augusto Villegas said.
But the world did not end, and Pl-zen, the 18th Street bar that opened for dinner back in October, will now serve brunch Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Brunch-goers will find homemade donuts with raspberry and white chocolate dipping sauces, and a Brunch Hot Dog - a jalapeno smoked beef sausage wrapped in duck bacon.
And those looking for a good cup o' joe can guzzle a cup by Dark Matter, a local coffee company in the Ukrainian Village.
The bar also serves up more traditional Mexican-style items like chilaquiles-sautéed tortilla chips with black beans, avocado and a runny egg on top.
