The Rogers Park Food Co-op hopes to sign up 300 members by August 2014, organizers said.
The grocer bought 10 other stores in the Chicago area, including two within city limits.
Ald. Harry Osterman said he's been in touch with potential buyers, like Mariano's and Whole Foods.
Both Harry Osterman and Joe Moore hope Trader Joe's or Mariano's will replace closing Dominick's stores.
