Plans for a high school that was once to be named after President Barack Obama have been stalled.

The tentative, four-year accord averts the district's second strike in four years.

A lack of support from parents at both schools led the 19th Ward alderman to drop his proposal, he said.

Parents demonstrated at multiple locations during rush hour on Friday. 

"We want no cuts to our pay and benefits," CTU President Karen Lewis said.

However, all classes, after-school activities and sports will be canceled, officials said.

Ald. Harry Osterman said the city's on edge as a Tuesday strike deadline approaches.

In addition to schools retaining their Level 1+ rating, a number jumped to the highest level in 2016.

Area schools are among the highest rated in the city.

The ratings show two schools fell, four schools improved and five others in the 19th Ward held steady.

Taft missed the district's top rating by a 0.025 points, Principal Mark Grishaber said.

This school year, hundreds of schools improved their ratings, officials said.

Applications are due by midnight Dec. 9 for Chicago's selective-enrollment and magnet schools.

The camp at 2407 W. 111th St. in Morgan Park costs $45 per day and will be taught by various artists.
