DOWNTOWN — The rain is expected to keep coming — and flash flooding will be possible when more storms hit the city Friday.

The National Weather Service will have a flash flood watch in effect 4 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday for Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. The agency warned of possible flooding on Thursday morning, too.

The flooding comes amid several days of storms in and around the city. Heavy rainfall started on Wednesday night and lasted into Thursday morning, and even more is expected to come Thursday night and again Friday night into Saturday morning.

The storms expected Friday could drop "well over" 1 inch per hour of rain on the city, according to the National Weather Service.

There will be "significant flooding risk" on Friday, according to the National Weather Service, as well as risk from excessive heat. The day is expected to hit 83 degrees.

The flooding risk should fall by Saturday, but the day will still see thunderstorms and warm temperatures near 90 degrees.
