LINCOLN PARK — Kids who don't figure to be awake at midnight can celebrate Noon Year's Eve at the Notebaert Nature Museum on Saturday.
The event, aimed at kids 2-10, starts at 11 a.m. at the museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive, with an apple-juice toast set for noon.
It's sold out, but a scheduled feeding of frogs and toads in the new "Frogs: A Chorus of Colors" exhibit follows at 1 p.m., with the release of new butterflies in the Butterfly Haven at 2 p.m., and those are open to all attending the museum Saturday. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for students and seniors 60 and over, $6 for children 3-12 and free for those under 3.
Mimosas At The Vig
Those wanting maybe just a little more kick than apple juice offers to kick off their New Year's Eve can check out the debut of the mimosa tower at the Vig, 1527 N. Wells St. The tower serves 16-18 glasses a table, and will debut at the Saturday brunch starting at 10 a.m.
'Westworld' On Tap
Fans of the freshly concluded first season of HBO's "Westworld" series can hit the Tobacco Road Tap Room, 2249 N. Lincoln Ave., for a New Year's Eve theme party starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. Reservations are available, and there's no cover charge as the new sports bar tries to make inroads into the crowded Lincoln Park scene. Country attire is, of course, strongly encouraged.
Tastes Of North Pond
Ever so slightly more tasteful, North Pond, 2610 N. Cannon Drive, still has some slots open for New Year's Eve. Chef Bruce Sherman's special menu for the night includes roasted venison and steamed turbot. The seven-course meal is $135 a person, with an additional $65 for wine pairings.
New Year's Run
Get up and run it off the next morning with the annual New Year's Day 5K, stepping off at 11 a.m. Sunday at 1600 N. Stockton Drive. It includes a walk, a fun run and a chip-timed run, with on-site registration ranging from $40-$45. Proceeds benefit the Lakeview Citizens' Council.
