Christmas Weekend Shootings Leave 11 Dead, 37 Wounded Across Chicago

CHICAGO — Shootings killed 11 people and wounded 37 over the Christmas weekend, police said.

Since Christmas morning alone, five people were killed and another 11 were wounded, police said.

• At 9:20 p.m. Sunday, two people were killed and five others were wounded in a single shooting in Chatham, police said.

• At 4:28 p.m., a 40-year-old man was shot dead in South Shore, police said.

• At 1:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot dead in West Humboldt Park, police said.

• At 9:54 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot dead in Morgan Park, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 3:50 am. Monday, a 31-year-old man was shot in the 2700 block of West Adams Street on the Near West Side, police said. He was hit in his buttocks and took himself to Rush University Medical Center, police said.

• Also at 3:50 a.m., a 26-year-old woman was shot in Irving Park, police said.

She was in a vehicle in the 4100 block of North Kedvale Avenue when someone in his 40s walked up to the car and fired a shot, police said.

She was hit in her right hand and was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition, police said.

This is a possible "domestic-related" incident, police said.

• At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was shot in South Shore, police said.

He was standing on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of South Chappel Avenue when a man exited a gray vehicle and fired shots, police said.

He was hit in his head and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The victim is a documented gang member, a police source said.

• At 2:46 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in West Englewood, police said.

• At 10:42 a.m., a 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were found wounded in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road n North Lawndale, police said.

The man was hit multiple times in his back and the woman was hit in her right knee, police said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where the man was in guarded condition and the woman was in stable condition, police said.

No one was in custody for these shootings.

Also over the weekend, three people were killed and nine others were wounded between Saturday and early Sunday, and another three people were killed and 17 wounded Friday and early Saturday.
