7 Killed, 51 Wounded In Weekend Gun Violence, Police Say

CHICAGO — Seven people were killed and at least 51 others were wounded in shootings throughout the city over the weekend, according to police.

Nearly half of the wounded were shot on Saturday, when 25 people were wounded and four others were killed.

No one was killed Sunday, but 11 people were wounded in shootings, police said. Included in the wounded is a 16-year-old boy shot in Roseland.

A 19-year-old man was shot on the edge of Bucktown and Logan Square Sunday evening, according to police.

• Most recently, a 32-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was riding his bike eastbound in the 4100 block of West Jackson Boulevard at 5:20 a.m. when a green van pulled up and two men inside began firing, Pacheco said. He was struck in both his leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, she said.

• A 19-year-old man was shot in Chicago Lawn early Monday, Pacheco said.

He was walking in the 6300 block of South Maplewood Avenue at 12:43 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, Pacheco said. He was struck in his knee and managed to get himself to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, she said.

• A 20-year-old was shot in Humboldt Park late Sunday.

• A man and a boy were shot by an off-duty sheriff's deputy in Chicago Lawn Sunday.

• A 53-year-old man was wounded in an Austin shooting Sunday night, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was in the 0-100 block of South Mayfield Avenue at 6:38  p.m. when he was shot in his right hip, Tannehill said. He was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition, she said.

•Two men and a teenager were shot in North Lawndale at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, the first shooting of the day

Four were killed and 25 wounded on Saturday, while three were killed and 15 were wounded Friday, according to police.
