WICKER PARK — Americano 2211, a new European-inspired cafe, has added ice cream and sorbet to its menu and plans to offer coffee-based desserts and an "ambitious" Baked Alaska to its forthcoming dinner service, a spokeswoman for the Wicker Park eatery said.

Pastry chef Nancy Silver's custard-style ice cream is available in espresso with red wine cherries and crushed amaretti, caramelized banana-chocolate chip, classic vanilla bean, and other flavors, according to the Americano 2211 menu.

The $5.50 half-pint portions are handcrafted in small batches and served in to-go containers. The ice cream lineup of gourmet flavors launched on June 1 and will rotate with the year-round seasons.

Additionally, select ice cream flavors will also be sandwiched between Silver's bakery cookies like the neighborhood favorite, TCHO chocolate chip cookie.

Silver, who uses locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, free of any additives or preservatives, first pioneered her craft through her company Snooklefritz, which sold ice cream for six years at Lincoln Park's Green City Market..

In addition to the upcoming dinner menu, an evening bar and wine/aperitif program is also slated to debut at Americano 2211 later this summer.

The 45-seat indoor cafe, which also boasts an ivy-canopied, 30-seat outdoor patio, opened in mid-April, replacing Birchwood Kitchen, which closed in October.

Americano 2211, at 2211 W. North Ave. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat.-Sun. Ph: 773-360-8757.
