DOWNTOWN — Blackwood BBQ is about to start smoking on Michigan Avenue.

The local mini-chain has started work on its new restaurant in the Illinois Center, 233 N. Michigan Ave. If all goes well the eatery replacing a shuttered Great Steak & Potato should open in July in the Downtown food court, Stephanie Simpson, a Blackwood partner, said.

The restaurant would be Blackwood's fourth following openings in the West Loop, Loop and Lakeview. Based in Chicago, Blackwood smokes its meat for up to 15 hours and offers sauces inspired by recipes across the country.

Once open, the restaurant would be the only barbeque joint accessible via the Downtown Pedway

Prices range from $7.99 for a pulled pork sandwich to $9.99 for a half-pound beef brisket platter with a side and pickles.
