CHICAGO LAWN — Ald. Toni Foulkes (16th) will discuss peace circles and ways to promote public safety with residents Saturday.

She's hosting her first-quarter 2016 16th Ward community meeting from 10 a.m.-noon in the auditorium at Claremont Academy, 2300 W. 64th St. The theme is "The State of Chicago — Where Do We Go From Here? Using Peace Circles to Promote Public Safety."

Foulkes said she will bring together police, residents, city and other local agencies to work together to prevent crime and improve the quality of life in 16th Ward neighborhoods.

"Today, more than ever, we must use creative approaches to reducing crime," she said. "Focusing on restorative justice techniques through peace circles is one way to get the process started."

There are four stages to the peace circle: identifying and discussing the key issues, preparation for the circles, conducting the actual circles and the follow-up.

Foulkes encouraged the community to come out and join her in this effort, which she said will also include discussion on topics important to residents, local businesses and other organizations.
