BRIDGEPORT — It might be difficult to imagine with snow on the ground, but baseball season is right around the corner.

That means Morrie O'Malley's will soon be slinging steamy hot dogs for lunch.

On March 7, the neighborhood red hot stand at 3501 S. Union Ave., just down the block from U.S. Cellular Field, will open for business.

This year of White Sox baseball marks O’Malley’s 28th season in the neighborhood. Sox tickets go on sale March 2.

The stand opens the first Monday of March every year and closes for the winter in November.

O’Malley’s is the home of your average, unpretentious hot dog — and one of the meatiest meals in the neighborhood: The Char-Broiled Strip Steak Sandwich, a $7.35 treat served on garlic toast.

You can almost imagine a whiff of a busy lunch hour at one of Bridgeport’s favorite haunts, and spring never smelled so good.
