LOGAN SQUARE — Another big-name chef is planning to open a restaurant on Armitage Avenue in Logan Square, which is quickly becoming a foodie destination.

Two years after leaving Nightwood, Jason Vincent announced plans to open his new restaurant, Giant, this spring in Logan Square.

Giant will take over the former Begin Thai space, 3209 W. Armitage Ave.

Vincent, who was named Food & Wine Magazine's "Best New Chef" in 2013 during his time at Nightwood, was also named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for "Best Chef: Great Lakes."

His exit from the Chicago food scene in 2014 was unexpected following his success.

“I did a lot of soul searching these past two years,” Vincent said. “Giant is the realization that while I take my craft seriously, I don’t want to take myself too seriously as a chef. We’re working to create a special little neighborhood spot where there’s something on the menu for everyone.”

Ben Lustbader, who has experience at Lula Cafe, Nightwood and Publican Quality Meats, is joining on as a chef/partner.

The plan to offer an "ever-changing" menu of elevated Midwestern dishes.

Josh Perlman, from Avec, will be the general manager and a partner on the project.

The 1,400-square-foot restaurant will hold just 40 seats.

Giant joins a growing list of restaurants to open along Armitage in Logan Square including the Rick Bayless veteranns behind Dos Urban Cantina, Ugo's, Osteria Langhe, Scofflaw, Parson's, Sink|Swim and Table, Donkey & Stick.

Crain's first reported the story.
