CHICAGO — A 39-year-old man who was shot in the early hours of Christmas morning died Wednesday from his injuries, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Franklin Carlos Aguilar was sitting with a 20-year-old man in a car near the corner of 47th Street and South Loomis at 2 a.m. Dec. 25, when a vehicle pulled up alongside them and someone fired shots, Chicago Police said at the time.

Aguilar was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in grave condition, police said. He died at 5:27 a.m. Wednesday at Stroger, according to the medical examiner.

The medical examiner said he died of complications stemming from his gunshot wound to the head.

A bullet grazed the 20-year-old man’s back, but he refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

Both victims are documented gang members, according to police.
