CHICAGO — Two men have been killed and five wounded in shootings since Monday, police said.
An evening shooting in Heart of Chicago left one man dead and another wounded.
A shooting on a Safe Passage route in Austin killed a 21-year-old man in the morning.
In non-fatal shootings:
• At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 27-year-old man walked into Little Company of Mary Hospital after being wounded in a New Year's Day shooting in Englewood, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman.
The man said he was walking in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue at 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 1 when he heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said. The man told police he saw a gray sedan fleeing the shooting, but he doesn't know if the shooter was inside the car.
The man went home after the shooting, but he went to the hospital after complaining of a pain in his buttocks, Estrada said. He was in "stable" condition at the hospital with a gunshot wound in his left buttock.
• At 11:45 p.m. Monday, a 58-year-old man was shot in Roseland, Estrada said. The man was standing near a parked car in the 100 block of West 95th Street when he saw a man firing a gun at a group of people standing near the victim, Estrada said.
The victim ran away, but he felt pain in his leg, Estrada said. The man drove himself home and then walked to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was in "stable" condition, Estrada said.
It does not appear the man was the intended target of the shooting, police said.
• At 1:33 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in Austin, Estrada said. The man was walking on the street in the 5400 block of West Harrison Street when he heard shots and felt pain.
A good Samaritan took the man to Loretto Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition, Estrada said.
The man has been uncooperative, police said. He is a documented gang member, police said, and the incident might be gang-related.
• At 12:05 p.m., a 28-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in Hermosa, Estrada said. The man was driving in the 4300 block of West Palmer Street when two men began firing at him.
The man was hit in his left thigh and drove himself to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was in good condition, Estrada said.
No one is in custody in these shootings.
