ALBANY PARK — Two men were shot in a Saturday shooting on the same block where Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th) led a candlelit peace march against gang violence just a week before.
The men were in the 3400 block of West Lawrence Avenue at 2:55 a.m. Saturday when shots rang out, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.
Police originally said the younger man was 25 years old, and that he was struck in his head and taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.
He was later identified as Robert Parra, 23, of the 2400 block of South Albany. Parra was pronounced dead three days later at 2:48 a.m. early Tuesday, according to Cook County morgue records.
The 28-year-old was struck in his leg and was also taken to St. Francis in serious condition, Estrada said.
No one is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
The peace march last Friday was organized in response to two shootings earlier that week that injured four people in the surrounding area.
Police said at the time that the shootings were gang related.
