CHICAGO — On the day before Thanksgiving, a spate of shootings left four people wounded and one 16-year-old boy dead, police said.

Just before midnight in East Garfield Park, two men walked up to the teen in a park just west of Kedzie Avenue on Van Buren Street. One of the men fired a gun, shooting the teen in his head and killing him.

In other violence, a 19-year-old man was shot in his lower back just after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of North Austin Avenue in Belmont Central, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He tried to drive himself to the hospital but could not manage the drive, Lemon said, so an ambulance picked him up at Fullerton and Central avenues and took him to the hospital in serious condition.

The shooting might have been drug-related, police said.

Around 3:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Erie Street in Austin, a 23-year-old man was walking down the street when someone pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire, Lemmon said.

The victim, a documented gang member, was shot in his right leg, she said. He was able to drive himself to West Suburban Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition.

Later, in the 6600 block of South Lowe Avenue in Englewood, a 16-year-old boy was shot in his left bicep, police said. The boy was able to get to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was in good condition.

Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 8600 block of South Kenneth Avenue in Scottsdale, a 47-year-old man was shot in his leg after an argument, police said. The man made it to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was eventually in "stable" condition.
