WICKER PARK — Chicago-based authors under age 18 are invited to submit their stories and poems to "Compendium Volume V," a professionally published creative writing anthology slated to be published this fall by Wicker Park-based nonprofit 826CHI.

Submission opened last week and will be accepted through 5 p.m. Dec. 1, according to the project's guidelines. In May, authors will be notified if their work has been accepted or declined.

Stories should be less than 1,500 words; poems less than 500 words.

An 826CHI spokeswoman said that group plans to print 1,000 copies of the anthology, which will retail for around $15 once it is published in October 2016.

All published authors will be given a complimentary copy and an invitation to participate in and attend a release party, which is also slated for October at the writing and tutoring center's headquarters.

Part of a national network of nonprofits started by writer David Eggers and former teacher Ninive Calegari, the center and a retail shop opened in Wicker Park in 2005.

826CHI offers free creative writing and homework help services to students ages 6-18. Volunteers called "spies" do one-on-one work with kids.

826CHI and The Wicker Park Secret Agent Supply Co., 1276 N. Milwaukee Ave. Phone: 773-772-8108.
