UPTOWN — A pair of self-proclaimed sci-fi and comic book nerds surprised their friends and family by marrying Halloween night at the site of their first date and kiss — Fat Cat Bar, 4840 N. Broadway.

Newlyweds Josh and Delona Clark-Hubbard sent "Game of Thrones"-themed invitations to about 100 friends and family members inviting them to a "celebratory reception" of their wedding, but instead flipped the script and held the wedding Saturday night.

"We were going to go to the courthouse, but it wasn't ideal. It wasn't a place for memories," said Delona, 32, adding they told guests to dress up "as brides and grooms."

"It was still classy. We're the classiest folks to get married in a bar," Delona said.

The two met about three years ago at the Uptown Gamestop, at 4483 N. Broadway, where Josh is a store manager. They would go on to have their first date at Fat Cat and share their first kiss just outside the bar's doors, they said.

Little did Josh know he'd be marrying her in the exact location three years later.

"I never really expected that to be in the cards for me, but everything just fell together for us," Josh said.

The couple got engaged in January and once they began planning the wedding, Fat Cat was always on their mind, Delona said.

"There was never any doubt at all to us about Fat Cat. [It] has been there for us since the beginning. [There] was a lot of sentimental value," Delona said.

For the wedding, the restaurant was decorated with black urns, there were flowers made from comics and a Simpsons' themed doughnut cake.

"It was pretty perfect. Every idea that we had seamlessly came together. For the two of us, it was stress free once we got there," Delona said.

While it was easy to persuade most of the guests to come to the bar, they each had a little trouble with an important family member.

"Our moms were a little harder to convince, so we had to lie a little," Delona admitted.

The two plan to celebrate their honeymoon with an Alaskan cruise when they can find time to take off work, they said.

I'm at a #Halloween wedding. They said we should do opposites. Congrats Josh and Delona.
