CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man has died after being wounded in a shooting in June.
Derrick Smith, of the first block of North Waller Avenue, was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. Monday at West Suburban Hospital, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records.
Smith's death came months after he was shot in Austin four months ago. At 10:05 p.m. June 21, he was sitting in a parked car in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne Street when someone walked up to him and shot at him multiple times, Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman, said at the time of the incident.
The shooting left Smith paralyzed, according to the Tribune. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner's records.
Chicago Police could not confirm if a homicide investigation was opened.
