CHICAGO — From highly personalized signs to encouragement for strangers, spectators came out in force to cheer on runners in the 2015 Chicago Marathon Sunday.

Let's be honest, the target of your sign will probably only see yours once or twice in the whole route — might as well give some love to others passing by. [All photos by Kelly Bauer]

Someone's daughter is doing a decent PR job for him.

We were impressed by the professionalism of some of these signs.

Sometimes a (giant) photo (of your head) is worth a thousand words.

Actor Christopher Walken can be pretty convincing. Here he is, encouraging runners to speed up.

Hmm, no floats, tons of garbage, almost zero dancing: We've been to better parades in Chicago.

Now this giant head knows how to get people excited.

If this doesn't speed you up, we don't know what will.

It's a bigger risk than you might think.

When the zombie apocalypse comes, marathoners will be well prepared.

We're almost positive the gingerbread man has never run a marathon before.

Bonus: Not an encouraging sign, but certainly a creative choice for this busy marathon route:
