AVONDALE — For the rest of October the Hairpin Arts Center will be celebrating the history of hip hop in Chicago.

The latest exhibit, "Permanent Record: Chicago Hip Hop Kulture," features work representing 40 years of history.

The exhibition presented by the Artistic Bombing Crew and the Center for Community Arts Partnerships is part of Chicago Artists Month.

Permanent Record is curated by BboyB and Flash, and is intended to be a celebration of hip hop's past and present.

Each Saturday for the rest of the month will feature workshops and panel discussions related to different elements of Chicago's hip hop scene.

A tour of Logan Square graffiti murals will follow each afternoon's workshop on the second floor of Hairpin Arts Center, 2810 N. Milwaukee Ave.

There will be a cypher session/jam every Friday this month during which the audience will decide on the winner followed by a party. There's a $10 suggested donation for the Friday night events (7-11 p.m.)

Saturday: Break dancing panel (10 a.m. to noon), workshop (1-3 p.m.), mural tour (3-5 p.m.)

Oct. 17: Rapping/MC panel (10 a.m. to noon), workshop (1-3 p.m.), mural tour (3-5 p.m.)

Oct. 24: DJing panel (10 a.m. to noon), workshop (1-3 p.m.), mural tour (3-5 p.m.)

Oct. 30 (Friday): Closing party jam/cypher session (7-11 p.m.)
