CHICAGO — The ongoing reconstruction of a Halsted Street bridge will once again cause traffic disruptions Downtown this weekend.

The ramp from the inbound Kennedy Expy. to the outbound Eisenhower Expy. will be closed from 1-8 a.m. Saturday and from 1-6 a.m. Sunday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. A posted detour will have drivers take the outbound Dan Ryan Expy. to 18th Street, where they will turn back onto the inbound Dan Ryan and then proceed to the Eisenhower.

The right lane of the inbound Kennedy from Jackson Street to the Eisenhower will be closed during the same hours, IDOT said.

The work is part of the massive Jane Byrne Interchange overhaul that closed portions of the Eisenhower, Kennedy and Dan Ryan during recent weekends, causing major congestion on downtown expressways.

Dubbed one of the worst bottlenecks in the country, the interchange is undergoing an overhaul that is expected to relieve congestion and cost taxpayers about $420 million, according to IDOT. The interchange is used by about 400,000 drivers each day.
