OLD TOWN — An extra-alarm fire that tore through Second City's offices will keep the iconic comedy theater out of its home for almost a month.
Second City is canceling or moving all performances scheduled on the Mainstage, e.t.c and UP Comedy Club theaters through Sept. 20, it announced Friday morning.
Some performances will be held at other spaces around town like The Annoyance, 851 W. Belmont Ave., and Steppenwolf Theater, 1650 N. Halsted St. But others, like "Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday Brunch," will be canceled.
Ticket-holders will be contacted by the box office to either offer refunds or tickets for future performances.
Classes will be held at Tribeca Flashpoint College, Columbia College Chicago and Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago.
For updates, visit Second City's website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
A planned benefit performance for Chicago firefighters is also taking shape. It's slated for the night The Mainstage reopens. All tickets will be donated to Chicago firefighters and donations will benefit the Chicago Fire Department Gold Badge Society.
According to advocates, the facade of the Queen Anne-style historic building appears salvageable.
