LINCOLN PARK — After a series of three sexual assaults in Lincoln Park, Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) is holding a public safety seminar for residents and Chicago police.

It'll be held Sept. 1 on DePaul University's campus at Cortelyou Commons, 2324 N. Fremont Ave., at 6:30 p.m.

Isidrio Valverde, 40, of the 5000 block of North Sheridan Road in Uptown, was recently charged with one count of felony aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of felony resisting and obstructing a police officer and a few traffic violations.

Around 1:40 a.m. Aug. 20, a 21-year-old woman was returning to her car near DePaul's Wish Field in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue when Valverde knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The woman suffered abrasions to her knee and scratches to her thigh, prosecutors said Saturday. The attacker also scratched the victim when he put his fingers inside her vagina, prosecutors said. The man ran away when the victim screamed, and surveillance cameras recorded the attack, prosecutors said.

She is the third woman to report a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault by a  man with a similar description since Aug. 9, police said.

Police did not charge Valverde in the two other sexual assaults they previously linked to the suspect, and prosecutors did not mention the incidents at Valverde's bond hearing.

"We hope you will join community leaders, the Police Department and safety experts for a community meeting on Sept. 1st where we will continue the important discussion focused on keeping our neighborhoods safe," Smith said in an email to constituents.
