THE LOOP — The Jackie Robinson West All-Stars withdrew their legal petition against Little League baseball Thursday, and the case was dismissed.

Lawyers for the South Side Little League were not even in court for the dismissal, but lawyers for Little League International said Jackie Robinson West had already agreed to withdraw its petition for discovery filed in June.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Kathy Flanagan declared the petition withdrawn and the case dismissed.

Earlier this month, Little League International filed a brief stating that the Jackie Robinson West All-Stars had only five legal players when they won the U.S. championship in the Little League World Series last year.

At that time, Victor Henderson, an attorney representing Jackie Robinson West, said their petition for discovery would be withdrawn.

Scott Schutte, an attorney for Little League International, declined comment and said the organization stood by its position stated in its fact-finding brief.

Little League stripped the league of its national title in February.

Henderson had declared, "They are still champions," when he agreed to represent the league immediately after that action by Little League International.

Henderson did not immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.
