OLD TOWN — A 25-year-old man was shot in his ankle in the Near North Side early Wednesday morning, police said.

Around 1:40 a.m., officers heard gunshots and found the man hurt on the sidewalk in the 400 block of West Evergreen Avenue, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Estrada said.

Police said they believe the shooting to be gang-related.
