EDGEWATER — In Edgewater, the hunt is on.

Ally Brisbin, marketing coordinator for the neighborhood's chamber of commerce, said 150 savvy (or lucky) residents will find goodie bags full of EdgeFest-branded swag while visiting local businesses now until the two-day festival begins Aug. 1.

In each bag, winners will get a pair of sunglasses, selfie stick, sunscreen and a reusable totebag, Brisbin said.

Each business will be given a certain amount of goodie bags that they can decide how to dole out and gently hide in their stores.

For example, Brisbin said a participating restaurant could place a bag on a seat that a customer would then happen upon by chance when seated at the table.

Once someone finds a bag, she said there are instructions on where and how to use the #EdgeFestCHI tag to share their winnings on social media — hopefully using their new selfie stick, Brisbin said.

The scavenger hunt is part of the Chamber's strategy to promote this year's 4th annual EdgeFest, held on North Broadway between Thorndale and Ardmore avenues the first weekend in August.

Though the downtown area will be filled with Lollapalooza attendees that weekend, Brisbin said EdgeFest will have its own two main stages complete with headlining performers like up-and-coming soul singer Lili K., along with two food courts, kids activities, beer vendors and dance shows.

Another thing that will set EdgeFest apart this year: An interactive aquatic dog show.

DockDogs, a traveling aquatics dog show that allows audience members and their furry companions to participate in the show, will have a pool and bleachers set up for neighborhood pooches to show off their local pride.

"They're gonna do these different competitions like how high can they jump, how far can they jump, they're going to have an agility element," Brisbin said. "So we're really, really excited about that because everybody loves dogs and there are a ton of dogs in Edgewater and it's just a really fun and unique feature that's not at any other street festivals."

For now, residents have the next few weeks to hit up local businesses in search of their swag bags.
