BEVERLY — The Netflix series "Easy" is filming this week in Beverly.

Crews filming the second season of the show are set up on Seeley Avenue between 100th and 101st streets. A block-party scene was shot Monday, according to those on the set.

Cast and crew are using the Trinity United Methodist Church at 9848 S. Winchester Ave. in Beverly as a staging area, according to church personnel. They said actors and extras meet there for make-up, costumes, meals and to hang out between scenes.

Producer Alex Orr would not discuss the specifics of the episode, including the plot or the actors involved.

Location manager Danielle Weber said the filming takes place on a closed set. But since the shooting occurs in a residential neighborhood, there's some expectation that neighbors will be nearby.

Joe Swanberg is the creator of the series that was made up of eight vignettes in its first season. A Detroit native, Swanberg once worked as a travel coordinator for the Chicago International Film Festival and is known as a pioneer in a style of filmmaking called, "mumblecore."

This genre of small-budget, independent movies often looks at 20-somethings struggling to make their way into the world both professionally and in their romantic relationships. The first season of "Easy" relied on a rotating group of characters via a loosely connected storyline.

A review of the show's first season in Variety said it is, "less about story than atmosphere; each episode feels like a living portrait, except instead of the characters as subjects, 'Easy' is more invested in exposing the invisible relationship dynamic between the two."
