What We're Reading: We're All A Bunch of Bullies Who Can't Recycle Properly

By  Jen Sabella Linze Rice and Heather Cherone | June 22, 2015 3:30pm

CHICAGO — Here's what we're reading on this steamy Monday.

Paper or Plastic? Reporter Heather Cherone, who loves to fill her blue recycling bin to the brim every two weeks, is reading the Washington Post's report about the precarious state of the recycling industry, which has stalled because of economic woes in China, a strong dollar and cheap oil. But it turns out that we are all part of the problem — allowing residents to just toss recyclables in the giant blue bin in the alley — without sorting plastic and paper, alumnium and glass — means the entire stream of recyclables is more likely to be polluted, making it worth far less.

A Deadly Adoption: In what could be the movie event of the year, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig star in Lifetime Movie Network's, "A Deadly Adoption." The plot centers around couple Robert and Sarah (Ferrell and Wiig) who, after a tragic accident, are unable to have kids on their own. They decide to adopt and welcome the birth mother of their new baby into their home. What could go wrong? Oh right, the film's title. As any Lifetime afficionado may have suspected, the birth mom's mysterious past, rowdy secret boyfriend and tendency to foreshadow eventually catch up with Robert and Sarah. Reporter Linze Rice agrees with Rolling Stone that "A Deadly Adoption" is the Lifetime movie we all deserve. Straddling the line between parody and utter seriousness, the comedic duo perform a "two hour love-letter" to the guilty pleasure movie channel we all secretly watch at home.

No Time For Manners: This weekend, the New York Times tackled an issue that has infested offices everywhere: rude behavior. The piece examines how harmful a bully boss can be for not only company morale, but for the health of employees and the success of the business as a whole. Of course, technology has made everything worse: texting during meetings, emailing while a colleague is trying to talk to you. Basically, our smart phones have turned us into trolls.
