2 Dead, 11 Wounded in Shootings Across the City, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two people are dead, and at least 12 other people, including a 60 year-old man, were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday morning, police said.

In Austin, a 56-year-old man was fatally shot Friday morning. In Englewood, a 23-year-old woman died after being shot in her chest, and another person was wounded while sitting on a porch early Saturday.

In Portage Park, a 22-year-old man was shot during a fight early Saturday, and in Little Village, a man was shot while driving northbound on South Avers Avenue.

•  Most recently, a 17-year-old boy was walking in the 8800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Burnside at 3:45 a.m., when he was approached from behind by a gunman who began firing shots, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

After being shot in his leg, the teen ran away and collapsed in the 700 block of East 88th Place. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition had stabilized, Cooper said.

• Around 10:30 p.m. in Riverdale, two men, 60 and 21, where inside a home in the 13200 block of South Vernon Avenue when they heard shots and felt pain. Both men were shot in their legs and taken to Advocate Christ where their condition had stabilized, Cooper said.

Police are questioning four people of interest in connection with the shooting.

• Around 9 p.m., a 27-year-old man was walking in the 9600 block of South Merrion Avenue in South Deering, when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot in his foot and taken to South Shore Hospital in good condition, Cooper said.

• In South Shore, a 16-year-old boy was shot in his chest in the 7300 block of South Dante Avenue at 6:20 p.m. The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Cooper said.

• Around 5:30 p.m. in Washington Park, two men were shot in the 200 block of East 58th Street. A 48-year-old man was shot in his back, and a 28-year-old man was shot in his leg, Cooper said.

The men, who according to police are documented gang members, were taken to John H. Stroger Hospital where their conditions had stabilized.

• In Grand Boulevard, a 20-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 4700 block of South Langley Avenue around 4:30 p.m., when another car pulled up and someone inside fired shots. The man was shot in his back and leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, Cooper said.
